At the heart of the Airstrait is the compact Dyson Hyperdymium motor, featuring a 13-blade impeller that spins at up to 106,000rpm. This generates the high-pressure airflow required to align and straighten the hair as it dries, allowing the machine to style without clamping hair between heated plates. More than 12 litres of air are propelled through the machine every second to provide fast and controlled styling.

Two precisely angled jets of air meet to create a concentrated downward airflow. This applies the tension needed to straighten each section while following the natural direction of the hair, helping create a smooth finish without relying on extreme direct heat. The result is a salon-style straight blow-dry effect with natural body rather than the flattened appearance sometimes associated with conventional straighteners.

The Airstrait's Intelligent Heat Control uses glass bead thermistors to measure the airflow temperature up to 500 times every second. The machine continuously regulates its heating element to maintain the selected temperature and help protect hair from excessive heat exposure. Wet styling temperatures include 80°C, 110°C and 140°C, while Dry mode provides additional temperature options for refreshing or refining an existing style.

An integrated tensioning system helps guide the hair through the airflow more effectively, increasing control while styling and helping reduce unwanted frizz and flyaways. The Airstrait is suitable for different hair types and can be used directly from wet, eliminating the need to fully blow-dry the hair before straightening.

The machine also features Intuitive Airflow, automatically sensing when hair is positioned between the arms and increasing airflow for styling. When the hair is removed, airflow automatically reduces to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary noise. An LCD display clearly shows the selected airflow and temperature settings, while an automatic pause function activates when the machine is left inactive.
