Fridge Freezers
A key appliance in every kitchen. Your fridge freezer needs to be large enough to provide for the amount of people in the house yet small enough not to take up too much valuable kitchen space.
Store Capacity
Storage capacity is measured in cubic feet or litres. The smallest fridge freezer s can offer around four cubic feet of storage (around 120 litres) and can be quite adequate for single people. A total capacity of around 9 to 10 cubic feet (around 300 litres) is generally adequate for most families, although much larger sizes of fridge freezer are available providing ample long term storage.
Size
Fridge freezers are available typically in 50, 55 and 60cm sizes. Where space is not a problem large American style double door fridges are growing in popularity. Some models will also need additional space at the back to allow the cooling parts to work properly and you should have at least 2.5cm on each side to ensure air circulation and to allow access for cleaning.
Star Rating
The star-rating system (from 1* star to 4 stars****) tells you what the appliance can freeze and for how long. The more stars, the colder the freezer and the longer frozen food can be safely stored. 4-star freezers are the most powerful and the type to go for if you want to freeze fresh food.
Energy Rating
Fridge Freezers are rated A to G for their energy consumption, with 'A' being the most efficient. Expert only stock units that rate AAA to C.
