Washing Machines

Washing Machines come in a standard footprint, 850mm high x 600mm wide.

A Washers dryer may be a better alternative if you are short on space.

Capacity

Measured in kilograms and generally ranging from 5kg - 9kg. For most families the average capacity of 5kg-6kg is ideal.

Efficiency Rating

To reduce energy costs, all appliances are rated from AAA down to G depending on the electricity consumption. Expert only sell AAA to C Rated appliances.

Spin Speed

Measured in rotations per minute (rpm), spin speed ranges from 1000 to 1600rpm. The faster the spin speed, the more water is removed.

Wash Times

A full load wash at 40C on an energy efficient cycle can take between 90 and 160 minutes. Quick wash can take as little as 15minutes. Look for these features in your machine.

Other Features

Auto half load, automatically adjusts the wash cycle for smaller loads.

Delay timer, pre-programs the cycle to begin at another time.

Variable wash controls, adjustable spin speeds and temperature.

Other things to consider

Measure the space where you plan to install your new machine. If you're off by even an inch or two, it can make a difference. Most importantly of all ensure to check the level of power and water consumption of the machine.

Tumble Dryers

How tumble drying works: Tumble dryers operate by creating the opportunity for hot air to circulate through the damp clothes evenly. The tumbling motion prevents creasing and helps increase the drying effect of the air.

Capacity

A typically sized dryer usually comes with a 5-7kg capacity. However you may also find dryers with larger capacity should you wish to dry larger items such as duvets. If you don't need such a large machine, the average model has a capacity of 6kg.

Efficiency Rating

All tumble dryers are rated A to G for their energy and drying performance with 'A' being the most efficient. Expert only stock units that rate from AAA to C.

Other Feature to look out for

Sensors/Timers: Some have heat sensors so they can detect when the load is dry. A handy feature if your dryer is located in the garage or separate from the house. Most have timers, which also provide the added convenience of choosing when and how long your dryer is running.

Automatic Drying: Like washing machines and dishwashers, some top of the range dryers have built in intelligence known as 'fuzzy logic' that can automatically determine the most efficient drying programme for the load using sensors and technology.

Reverse Tumble: Modern dryers will have a reverse tumble feature that alternates the direction the drum rotates to allow the clothes to separate. This way they dry more quickly and evenly.

Crease Reduction: Once a load's dry and is waiting to be emptied, some machines will continue to intermittently rotate to limit creasing.

Dishwashers

Dishwashers which were once thought to be a luxury appliance have evolved into must-have time saving appliances. Prices are mainly affected by capacity and special features, but can also be influenced by certain finishes such as stainless steel. Models are enhanced by numerous features and energy-saving options, so it's best to have an idea of what these features are, then you can decide what really matters to you.

Capactiy

The majority of dishwashers are 24" and generally hold 12-14 place settings. We recommend this size as the standard dishwasher for an average family. Slim-Line models are also available which are more suitable for usage by 1-2 people, or in kitchens where space is restricted.

Energy/Water Consumption

A dishwasher that proudly displays the 'A' Energy Rating symbol will save money compared to lower rated models. Some dishwashers even have low water features or 'quick wash' options which will save a lot of water over the period of a year. Another energy saver is a 'delay start' which is great if your electricity usage is calculated for off-peak and on peak pricing - you set it to wash later when energy is cheaper.

Integrated or Free-Standing?

Another aspect to consider when purchasing a dishwasher is whether you want the appliance integrated into your kitchen or free-standing. This comes down to personal preference.
